Ms. Mariya Agnes

Consultant Psychologist | M.Sc. Clinical Psychology

“You don’t always need to know how to explain what you’re feeling. Sometimes, finding the right person to talk to is where it begins.”

This simple understanding is at the heart of Ms.Mariya Agnes’s work as a Consultant Psychologist.

With an M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology and 1400+ hours of Sessions working with children, adolescents, and adults, she brings warmth, patience, and clinical understanding into the therapy room. She works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional difficulties, behavioural concerns, attention-related challenges, relationship struggles, and difficult transitions in life.

But before the concern, she sees the person.

A Therapy Room Where You Don't Have to Pretend

People often enter therapy carrying thoughts they have never said aloud.

Some arrive knowing exactly what is troubling them. Others simply know that they are exhausted, overwhelmed, disconnected, confused, or no longer feeling like themselves. Mariya doesn't expect someone to arrive with the perfect words.

Her sessions are interactive and deeply person-centred, creating space for clients to speak at their own pace and gradually make sense of what they are experiencing. She pays close attention not only to what is being said, but also to emotional patterns, behavioural responses, relationships, and the experiences surrounding the concern.

The intention is not to judge, label, or lecture.

It is to understand first and work forward from there.

When the Client Is a Child - Children don't always communicate emotional pain through words.

Sometimes it appears as anger. Sometimes silence. Sometimes changes in behaviour, attention, learning, sleep, social interaction, or the way they respond at home or school.

Mariya has a particular ability to connect with younger clients without making the interaction feel intimidating or overly clinical. Her understanding of behavioural principles complements her clinical psychology background, allowing her to explore what may be happening beneath a child's behaviour rather than focusing only on correcting it.

She works with children experiencing emotional distress, behavioural difficulties, attention-related concerns including ADD/ADHD, learning-related challenges, anxiety, and adjustment difficulties.

Where appropriate, she also works alongside parents and families, because helping a child often means understanding the environment and relationships surrounding that child.

Adolescence Needs a Different Conversation

Being a teenager can mean experiencing emotions intensely while still trying to understand them.

Academic pressure, identity, friendships, family expectations, relationships, body image, rejection, loneliness, social media, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future can all become intertwined.

Mariya approaches adolescents with respect rather than judgement. Instead of immediately telling them what they should do, she works to understand how they see their own world.

That difference can turn counselling from something a young person is sent to into a conversation they actually want to participate in.

For Adults, Life Can Become Heavy

Her practice also extends to adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, relationship concerns, emotional overwhelm, behavioural patterns, and other psychological difficulties.

Her therapeutic style combines psychological understanding with practical intervention. Depending on the individual and their needs, sessions may incorporate evidence-based psychological approaches, behavioural strategies, emotional regulation techniques, and other appropriate therapeutic methods.

There is no single formula that every client must fit into. Because people are different, their therapy should be too.Understanding Before Changing. One of Mariya's strengths is her ability to listen carefully and observe the patterns surrounding a person's difficulty.

Instead of focusing exclusively on “How do we stop this?”, therapy may first explore:

What is this emotion trying to communicate?

Why does this pattern keep repeating?

What happens just before the behaviour appears?

What does this person need that they may not yet know how to express?

That understanding becomes the foundation from which meaningful change can begin.Therapy That Still Feels Human

Mariya believes professional psychological care does not need to feel distant or mechanical. A therapist can bring clinical knowledge into the room while still being warm, approachable, curious, and genuinely present with another human being. That balance defines much of her work. Whether she is sitting with a child struggling to express an emotion, a teenager who feels nobody understands them, or an adult carrying something quietly for years, her starting point remains remarkably simple:

Listen without rushing. Understand without judging. And help the person discover a way forward that feels possible for them.

Ms. Mariya Agnes currently provides psychological support through Mindmaris, working with children, adolescents, adults, and families through a personalised and human-centred approach to mental wellbeing.
