The Surprising Ways Nature Can Support Your Mental Wellbeing
The seed that sprouts into a sapling, growing into a plant and into a tree that stands tall, ever giving shelter, timber, and food, teaches us one lesson. The wind that collects moisture, the rumbling thunder, and the rain that cools the air and quenches the earth's thirst teach another lesson. The fawn hiding between the bushes, nourished and taken care of by its mother's milk, grows big and jovial, only to become a single meal for the tiger and her cubs, whose skin would eventually be hung on the wall of the hunter's room, teaching another lesson. The dinosaurs that once ruled the earth, now a collection of bones in a museum, speaks another lesson.
"The sun does not forget a village just because it is
small." —African Proverb
Mother Earth is a wise lady; she has
witnessed the first prokaryotes turn into eukaryotes, the first plant growing
out of cyanobacteria, the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, and the rise and fall
of kingdoms around the world through many eras that unfolded. From the birth of
a baby to the death of an old man, from the tension of an exam to the stress of
work, from the freedom of childhood to the responsibilities of adulthood, she
has watched life unfold before her eyes and meet its gracious end as well. In her
eyes, we are only a part of a bigger and much wider plan, plans that we cannot
restrict to our comprehension.
In our journey, Mother's nurturing kindness and loving
tenderness have guided us in spirit to find meaning within our short episode of
life, to contribute to something wider and much beyond us.
"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand
everything better." —Albert Einstein
Nature is a spiritual entity more than a physical one. The truth is, similar to how we drink water and eat food that nourishes our physical body, we are similarly nourished spiritually and mentally by elementary nature, the soul of Mother Earth. All we have to do is open our hands and accept; to accept, we must first listen, and to listen, we should stand in silence. In silence, we find peace; in silence, we find satisfaction; in silence, we are allowed to connect within and beyond. Within and beyond are not two different spaces but one; as it is outside you, so is it inside. Thus, what you believe within, you attract from nature. In essence, nature, the world, and others are only a reflection of what you are. And what you want is always finding its way to you from nature.
