Mood Rollercoaster? Why Periods Can Affect Your Emotions?

Have you ever felt overwhelmed emotions before your menstrual cycle comes?   Yes, it is...

We feel like we are in a emotional rollercoaster., sudden shift in our mood, sometimes we feel irritated, sometimes anxious, sometimes sadness, etc..
Have you think about why this is happening to women?  Is it something creating by yourself..?
Of course.. No,
There are lot of underlying process is happening in physiological level., that is in turn affecting your mind too.

Let's go deeper !.. ;

It's all because of some hormones playing inside us, they are estrogen and progesterone. Increase in progesterone level and fall in estrogen level, just before our periods comes. This hormonal imbalance can affect neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which actually regulates our mood. Serotonin becomes high and dopamine becomes low, which is leading to the intense mood swings, irritability and anxiety. Everyone not feel the same, someone have clinically diagnosable emotional issues such as, depression, anxiety,etc., which is diagnosable as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Going through these emotions is very difficult.
Let's find out some ways to manage this.

First thing is, the awareness and acceptance of the emotions we have, and be kind to ourselves, recognize they are temporary and a natural part of the menstrual cycle. This self awareness and acceptance is very essential for coping with mood swings.

Second one is, maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, staying hydrated, regular exercise, and adequate sleep, can help manage mood and thereby maintain an energy level.

Third one is, seek support and care from the comfortable person. Communicate with the supportive person around you.

Fourth one is, tracking of periods in a month, which helps to become prepared for the expected mood swings and related symptoms, this will help in cope with the expected emotional issues.

Fifth one is, Mindfulness and relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, and yoga can soothe the mind and reduce stress.

Finally,
Take mental health support, if the symptoms get worse and affecting your day-to-day chores.
No need to live in the distress, just understand, accept, be compassionate and take support!!!
